“Don’t do that Dave”, the famous line from a “2001 A Space Odyssy” written & Directed by Stanley Kubrick, rings loudly in today’s connected world. Are we getting close to the point where we are answering to the Hal in our life?

Is your blackberry your ‘Hal’?  How about your inbox, shall we call it the in-Hal? Do you interrupt meetings to answer ‘Hal’?  Do you check you ‘Hal’ before you have your first coffee of the day?  If you answer YES to any of these questions, then I suggest that you are answering to Hal.

In the movie, Dave eventually shuts Hal down. In our world, we are not likely to shut our Hal off… but we do need to put the real people first and be careful not to answer to Hal to the demise of real relationships.

“2001 A Space Odyssy” was produced in 1968.  How did they know?
